I am an atheist, and I have heard this argument before. It may at first seem reasonable, but let me explain why it does not change my mind.Perhaps you have heard one or both of these mathematical analogies before:If you have an infinite number of monkeys and typewriters, and each monkey is randomly hitting keys on its type writer, some monkey somewhere while produce a perfect Copy of Shakespeare's "Hamlet" (some other monkey somewhere will produce a perfect copy of your Quran, as well).If a monkey randomly bangs keys on a typewriter for an infinite amount of time, it will eventually produce a perfect copy of Shakespeare's "Hamlet".Now, with that in mind, consider how much is in the universe. We can observe 7.9*10^39 stars with our current telescopes, and we have no reason to think that there isn't more beyond that. You are correct in that, if you randomly throw randomly shaped metal bits together out in the desert, you will almost certainly not get a watch. However, for the same reason that an infinite number of monkeys, or one monkey with infinite time, randomly hitting typewriter keys will eventually produce works of Shakespeare, eventually, if enough randomly shaped metal bits are banged around long enough, a watch will be produced by pure accident. As outlandish as this may seem, you must realize that while the odds of this are small, they are not zero, and there is enough in the universe for the odds to actually be in favor of complex life being randomly created many, many times over.Now, this does not explain how the universe came into being in the first place, but with science, there is at least a process of inquiry that may yield such answers. However, there is no such process for explaining a god. A god can no more pop into existence from nothingness than the universe can. If you think the odds of randomly creating the earth by accident are low, what do you think the odds are of a god capable of designing the earth coming into being the same way?Lastly, and MOST IMPORTANTLY, there is absolutely no comparison between what we see, and a watch in the desert. There is no reason to label the earth, the sun, etc. orderly, or organized in any way. Obviously, in physics,, and everywhere else, things do not change state until prompted to do so. Therefore, it is quite reasonable that the solar system, and everything else in the universe, would follow predictable patterns of behavior. That does not indicate organization or purpose in any way. A watch is a device that can be seen to perform a specific function. That can not be said for ANYTHING in nature. Therefore, nature shows no signs of purpose, organization, or order.in short, there is so much loose stuff in the universe that simple life forms, which can evolve into more complex things like humans, SHOULD come about by accident occasionally, and there is nothing to suggest that anything more is going on. A well bred, properly raised and selected TRAINED GSD can fit the standard you want.No dog is able to tell a slap on the head by a friend or a stranger, but, a dog CAN be trained to not react to a hand shake. No hugs, no punches and no slaps…even if I could condition my dog to accept them, I would not. Yes, a dog like this can go places with you, but, it would be trained to be NEUTRAL and ignore people and animals, not play with them!! Hope I helped. Counting you and your wife, that make three that I've encountered.As for the question, since the brain and heart develope early in the first trimester, then yes, a fetus would feel pain. I would chose the rights of a person over an animal any day. The only way an abortion is legal is with "Plan B" since it is usually taken the day after. - Chosen by Voters You need to impress your mum by how well you've thought out how you'll look after the kittens and how you'll earn the money to help to pay for all the things they will need. Such as vaccinations and neutering when they are old enough, if they are not already done by the Rescue people. Make a list of everything, cat beds,food and water dishes, scratching posts, catnip toys,brush and comb,litter trays and litter and of course food.They will probably have been treated for worms and fleas when you get them but they do need to be treated regularly for these. Learn as much as you can about the care of kittens. Say you will clean the litter trays,that you wouldn't expect your mum to do that.You could promise to do more jobs around the house for pocket money to pay for everything they need.Tell her that 2 kittens together amuse each other a lot so would be no trouble to her when you are out,and say they are wonderful to watch when they play and it would make you really happy to give them a good home as they badly need one.They do sound gorgeous, I hope you can persuade your mum.Good luck.
